Focus Foundation exists to advance the well-being of individuals, families, and the community, and to help them thrive. Towards this end, the Society explores scientific theory and research to craft fresh approaches to contemporary and emerging social issues and human concerns. The Society has a special interest in issues and policy concerning children, adolescents and young adults, as well as families and the community. Focus Foundation stands apart as a vision-directed organization. Instead of working from rules, we work from articulated principles. This approach makes us stronger as it expands our thinking and our ability to deal effectively with complex problems. It allows us to watch and listen very carefully to children and families and to understand the broader meaning in what they say and do. It allows us to employ a broad range of innovative approaches to solving problems. While each of us, with our diverse talents and experience, may start from a somewhat different perspective, our Vision helps us combine our strengths and build towards a common goal. Vision provides inspiration, ensuring that our doing moves beyond our talking and that there is real substance to what we do. Vision ensures that we don’t get distracted by the terrain, but rather focus on the goal. Vision ensures that when we are in a valley we maintain our perspective. In sharing our Vision with children and families they are able to understand and collaborate with us as partners. The Vision statement encourages children and families to have hope beyond their circumstances, to have courage and endurance, to self-reflect, to grow in capacity, rebound from adversity, and become more resourceful. |
